    What is girl empowerment for EBCHES • Changing young girls’ mentality from “can’t do it” to “can do it.” • Creating an environment where girls can have a voice in economic, political and cultural issues. • Develop activities so that girls empowerment activities boost their self-esteem and allow them to participate on an equal platform as their male counterparts.

When girls are educated, healthy, and empowered, families are healthier. According to UNESCO, 2.1 million children under age 5 were saved between 1990 and 2009 because of improvements in girls’ education.

Educated girls have hope
Research from the Brookings Institution has found that every additional year of school increases a girls’ eventual wages by an average of 12% – earnings she invests back into her family. Empowered, educated girls have healthier, better educated children and higher wages – helping to break the cycle of poverty.
WHY WE NEED TO EMPOWER GIRLS WITH HOPE IN ETHIOPIA

 

• Girls are denied the chance to prove their worth.
• Girls have long been discriminated against by society and made to believe that they are inferior or less important than boys
• In many societies the birth of a baby boy is received with great joy.
• The birth of a girl however is less ritual with reduced value attributed to the mother. The reception ceremony is minimal and less colorful.
• According to UN report, abduction is a well known traditional practice in parts of Ethiopia whereby girls are kidnapped and raped to be forcefully married.
• Ethiopia has the second highest Female genital mutilation (FGM) after Djbouti and Sudan To support us. contact -
